Buying a complete hardware brake kit will give you everything you need to get your brake system back into order. Knowing what you need when you have a problem should be easy with the correct kit. Braking systems consist of many components and the system as a whole can be described as a safety component in a vehicle. A normal road-going family car will need a different kit as to a race car. So would trucks and trailers that endure dusty and wet conditions or a performance car that is driven on the occasional track day.

A complete brake kit consists of the following:

1. Brake disc: which is also called a rotor. This disc is a type of brake that uses callipers to squeeze a pair of pads against a disc in order to create friction that slows down your vehicle. The disc is usually made of cast iron but may in some cases be made of composites such as reinforced carbon or ceramic matrix composites.

2. Brake pads or shoes: When a brake pad is heated by contact with the rotor, it transfers small amounts of friction material to the disc. The brake pad together with the disc stick together providing the friction that stops the car. Brake pads are also known as friction liners. Some cars work with front and rear brake pads while others only work with the front or the rear. It is steel backing plates with friction material bound to the surface that faces the disc brake rotor.

3. The brake calliper: A calliper is part of the disc brake system. A car can have either 2 or 4 callipers. Cars with rotors on all four tyres will automatically have four callipers and when the car has two rotors and two drums then the car will have two callipers in front. These callipers absorb a lot of heat generated from the braking system. Over time, this heat can destroy or weaken the seals inside the callipers, but the calliper change can also be done when you change your vehicles braking system.

4. Brake lines: It is tubes that carry brake fluid between components. These lines are one of the most important brake parts in turning pedal action into stopping power in a vehicle’s brake lines.

These are the components that make up a complete brake kit for your vehicle such as a truck or car.
